Is Blue Line Special Police a real police department?
Yes, we are. We are a real police department just like any other department. We arrest for misdemeanors and felonies; issue citations and enforce laws. The North Carolina General Statutes, Chapter 74E, authorizes the North Carolina Attorney General to administer the Company Police Program and certify Special Police Agencies and Officers. Blue Line Special Police is authorized to be a Special Police Agency through this program and all of our police officers are certified by this program.

Do BLSP officers carry guns and other weapons?
Yes. All BLSP officers carry a firearm that they are trained and certified to use. BLSP officers carry weapons openly while wearing their uniform, or if in plain clothes, their weapon may be concealed. Our officers also carry OC pepper spray. Some of our officers also carry other weapons, including Tasers. BLSP officers are also able to carry shotguns or rifles.

Do BLSP officers have police cars with blue lights and sirens?
Yes. Blue Line Special Police officers drive marked and unmarked patrol cars. We have and use blue lights and sirens just like your local police department does.

What is the jurisdiction of BLSP?
BLSP has jurisdiction on all property we are contracted to protect by the owner or person in control of the property. We also have jurisdiction on any property owned or controlled by Blue Line Special Police Department. If an incident starts in our jurisdiction, and we are in immediate and continuous pursuit, BLSP can pursue a suspect as far as the NC state line.

Can Blue Line Special Police work for my city, town, state, or other governmental entity?
BLSP can work for any government entity (federal, state, town, city, housing authority, water and sewer authority, etc.) in the State of North Carolina. We do NOT replace your local police force. We are authorized and contracted to work on real property owned by or controlled by your governmental entity. Examples: city hall, parks, any government buildings, public housing complex, hospitals, and similar areas.

Are BLSP officers like off-duty police officers?
Yes and No. We have the same powers and jurisdiction that an off duty police officer has. However, BLSP carries our own workman's compensation insurance, liability insurance, and auto insurance. When a company hires off-duty police officers from their local police department, that company is liable for any workman's compensation or claims due to the actions of the officer you are employing. BLSP working for you is our primary job, not an extra off duty job.

Are BLSP officers like security guards?
NO! BLSP officers are certified police officers who have extensive training. Security guards have no authority to detain a person or investigate a crime more than any other citizen.

Are BLSP officers professionally trained?
Yes. BLSP do all of our own in-service training. In addition, our officers maintain and meet all certifications based on the State of North Carolina's mandates. Many of our officers exceed the NC state requirements.

Where in North Carolina does Blue Line Special Police work?
The BLSP office is based in Alamance County. However, BLSP is able to work anywhere in NC.

Do Blue Line Special Police officers go through a hiring process?
YES! For details on the hiring process, look on our requirement page. We have strict background requirements that go beyond what is required by the State of North Carolina or many other police departments. Once we review an applicant, the state's Company Police Administrator reviews our background check and documentation. If the applicant is approved, he or she will be sworn as a BLSP officer.  Please see our Now Hiring Page for information on current job openings.
